I also like the Area J, but the Model J has a little thicker lows and mids that I like.Īny thoughts on this combination? I'm open to other suggestions as well, so long as they're comparable in price to the Dimarzios (which seem to be available for around $50 used to $70 new). I also really like how the Model J sounds, compared to the Ultra Jazz, for example. Since the Geezer is sort of a "vintage plus" P pickup, I was thinking that maybe combining a Model J in the bridge might be a similar sort of combo to what Tony did. When Tony added the bridge pickup to his fretless P, he used a Dimarzio Model J, though I know the original ones were wound a little hotter than the current ones. This is also how my very first fretless was set up (Yamaha BB350F back in the late 80s), so I'm familiar with this and comfortable with its pros and cons.ĮMG doesn't seem to sell the Geezer J pickup by itself, so I'm considering what bridge pickup to use. I'm going to set it up like the Tony Franklin signature model, with just master volume and tone plus a 3-way switch. I've ordered a Mighty Mite fretless P neck, and I'm going to have the body routed for a J pickup in the bridge position. I have a no-name P body, basic Fender hardware, and an EMG Geezer P pickup that I bought a while back for a different project that never happened. I'm putting together a fretless PJ sort of on a budget, meaning I'm using parts I already have where possible. Links to things I missed are super welcome. ![]() Hey all - I've searched and couldn't find anything on this, but there's so many posts about the Geezers and the DiMarzios that I may have missed it. ![]()
